Common Questions

  • Your surgeon will inform you if you need to see your primary physician before scheduling surgery.
  • You will have a consultation with your surgeon and the anesthesiologist prior to your surgery.

  • For most procedures, plan on an hour and a half before your surgical appointment and an hour after surgery.
  • Most patients go home after surgery when stable; however, your surgeon will determine if overnight care is required for your procedure

  • After your surgery, a nurse will go over instructions your surgeon has written for you with you and your companion.
  • Medications can take up to 24 hours to leave your system. We recommend someone stay with you for your safety.

  • The type of anesthesia that will be used will be determined during your pre-surgery consultation.
  • Your physician may prescribe pain medicine for home use.

  • Consult your physician for specific instructions. For most procedures, you may take your blood pressure, heart and thyroid medications with a very small sip of water.
  • Do not take diabetic medications without the permission of a pre-op nurse. You could be without food for 12 hours or longer and we don’t want you to have an insulin reaction.

  • Remove all jewelry. Some equipment in the OR can cause burns when jewelry is worn.
  • Bring your government-issued photo ID, insurance cards, any applicable patient forms, and any payment that you may have been asked to bring.
